Science Research Academy
Dr. Welch has partnered with Dr. William Maeila and the Science Research Academy to help students find scientific research projects and connect them with expert scientists for collaborative, independent studies.
In the Science Research Academy, students undertake an independent research project in a scientific field of their choosing under the guidance of a mentor (a professional working in the field). The goal is for students to have an experiential learning opportunity in a STEM field that they are interested in exploring and for them to produce novel findings that can then be shared at various competitions and symposia or be submitted for publication. In my experience, this has not only motivated many students to pursue a STEM degree in college but also to pursue a career in the sciences after graduation. These experiences also certainly boost students’ resumes as they apply to some of the top colleges around the world.
