Jennifer Welch, PhD
Dr. Welch has worked in the Admissions Office at an Academic Medical Center since 1994. She began serving as the Director of Admissions in 2001 with a focus on medical school recruitment and admissions and also became a voting member of the COM admissions committee. In 2006, she became the Chair of the COM admissions committee and served in that capacity until June 2023. From 2013-2023, Dr. Welch served as the Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. In her role, she also served on the MD/PhD and MD/MPH admissions committees, while overseeing admission to multiple BS/MD programs. Under her leadership, an MD/MBA program and a post-baccalaureate program were created and implemented at her University. Jennifer has advised, reviewed, considered, and made decisions on thousands of applicants and applications. Additionally, she has interviewed hundreds of medical school applicants and can offer constructive feedback on how to present your best self to your interviewers. She is driven to help applicants succeed in pursuing their dreams of becoming physicians and highly values her interactions with her students.

Alec Jacobson, MD
Dr. Alec Jacobson is a physician who is passionate about education, advising, and writing. Dr. Jacobson grew up in Rochester, NY, and attended Syracuse University as a Coronat Scholar in the College of Arts and Sciences. As a Writing and Rhetoric major, he developed a deep understanding of how to communicate effectively, both verbally and through writing. Dr. Jacobson then went on to medical school, where he was a teaching assistant for multiple courses, captain of the student advising program, and member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Jacobson successfully matched into an anatomic and clinical pathology residency program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. While at Penn, Dr. Jacobson completed a term as chief resident in clinical pathology, in addition to a separate, two-year residency program in Healthcare Leadership in Quality. As a double-board certified pathologist, he is well versed in communicating information to myriad audiences, and he brings the same skillset to his essay reviewing and editing. He currently works in a professional medical writing capacity.
Dr. Jacobson lives outside of Philadelphia and enjoys spending time with his wife and Boston Terrier. He is a fitness enthusiast and a big fan of the New York Knicks and Buffalo Bills.
